The Gloucester & Bristol Diocesan Association of Church Bell Ringers

The Association holds three striking competitions during the year. Two are held on AGM day and are on 6 bells and 8 bells. These are familiarly known as the Croome and Penn Trophies, after what the winners receive. The third is for young members and is known as the Young Persons' Striking Competition.

The 8 bell Striking Competition, for the Penn Trophy

The bands taking part in this competition are drawn from around the branches, with no one tower contributing more than five ringers. The results are therefore by branches.

The 6 bell Striking Competition, for the Croome Trophy

In this competition the bands represent individual towers within a branch, these being the winners of the branch striking competitions. There are also two Ringing Master's Clappers which are awarded for 'meritorious performances' in the competition.

The Young Persons' Striking Competition, for the Nibley Trophy

The only stipulation for this competition is that the band must be made up of members who are under 19 on the day of the contest. Other than that bands may be constituted as needed. The Barnwood Trophy, first awarded in 2008, is given to the highest placed band with the most ringers from one tower.
